Overview

The West Kilbride Golf Club

The West Kilbride Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-71 championship links course measuring 6,523 yards from the back tees, located in West Kilbride, Ayrshire.

Founded in March 1893 after Old Tom Morris surveyed the land and declared it excellent for golf, the course is the most northerly of Ayrshire's true links courses, offering spectacular views across the Firth of Clyde to the island of Arran. The layout features out of bounds in play on 12 holes, with a course rating of 71.3 and slope of 124.

The course began as 9 holes in May 1893 before James Braid extended it to its current 18-hole configuration in April 1905, with Braid making further significant changes in 1914 and again in the 1920s. The club has an established championship pedigree, having hosted the PGA Seniors Championship in 1969, the 2023 R&A Seniors Home Internationals, and the 2025 Scottish Boys' Championship. It has also been venue for the British Girls', British Senior Ladies', Scottish Girls', Scottish Ladies', and World One Armed Golfers Championships.

The club plays more than 50,000 rounds annually and features extensive practice facilities including two putting greens, a chipping green, practice bunkers, driving nets, and a long hitting area. Head PGA Professional Iain Darroch has operated the pro shop since October 2007, stocking brands including Callaway, Lyle and Scott, and Galvin Green. The Rowan Tree Restaurant provides catering, including weekend specials and Sunday roast carveries.
