Overview
Royal Troon Golf Club is a coastal Ayrshire links in Troon, South Ayrshire. Its Old Course has 18 holes, par 71, and measures 7,208 yards from the championship tees. Troon Golf Club was founded in 1878. The course’s development involved Charles Hunter, Willie Fernie, James Braid and, later, Mackenzie Ebert, whose advice informed changes made before the 2016 Open.
The Old Course first hosted The Open Championship in 1923 and has staged the championship ten times, most recently in 2024. Its opening six holes run parallel to the coastline, with views toward the Isle of Arran and Ailsa Craig. Notable tests include the 601-yard sixth hole, Turnberry, and the 123-yard eighth, the celebrated Postage Stamp; the Railway hole runs beside the railway line.
Facilities include the clubhouse, Club Bar, Ailsa Room, Dining Room and Smoke Room, along with locker rooms, catering and car parking. Golf services include a caddie service, limited buggy hire, trolley hire, club hire and professional services. For 2026, the published adult visitor price is £395 for the Old Course and £135 for the Portland Course. The listed figures are per adult golfer.
Visitor play is offered from mid-April until October, with tee times available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The club stated that limited 2026 times remained outside the online booking system, while 2027 bookings were available by email only, according to the official visitor information.
