Tantallon Castle

Tantallon Castle is a Historic Scotland property near North Berwick in East Lothian, set high on a cliff edge, with views over the North Sea. Its defining structure is a massive red sandstone curtain wall. The castle was home to the Red Douglas dynasty and is described by Historic Environment Scotland as the best example of castle architecture from the 1300s anywhere in Scotland.

Visitors can climb to the battlements and view artefacts connected with the castle’s history, including the clashes with the Crown that marked the Red Douglas family seat.
