Mansfield House is a luxury country house hotel
built in the 1870's and
substantially
extended in 1902 by the then Provost of Tain.
Mansfield House retains many of its fine original Maitland features
including pine paneling and ornate plaster ceilings, and has been
completely refurbished in the last 3 years to a 4 star standard.
Mansfield House is situated in Easter Ross, the county with the lowest
annual rainfall in Scotland. Although seemingly remote, it is highly
accessible, being only 40 minutes drive from Inverness, which has
direct
air and rail links with London. |

Golf
You won't find a better
area in which to play golf in the UK than
Easter Ross, Sutherland and
Inverness. There are a dozen good
18-hole courses within 30 minutes
drive of Tain, and about 20
within an hour's drive.
The most well known of these are the Championship
courses
at
Royal Dornoch (ranked 13th in the UK), Nairn (ranked 51st)
and
the Carnegie Course at Skibo (ranked 92).
Alternatively there is the course here in Tain
itself, designed by
old Tom Morris in 1890, which is just as
challenging.
Discounts on green fees are available. Brora, Golspie and
Fortrose
also provide interesting golf at reasonable prices.
Whether you are planning a relaxing round on a
9-hole course,
or a more serious game on a competition course, the hotel
will be
more than happy to book it for you. They can also arrange
transportation
or if you prefer to have a few lessons before you hit the
course
for real just let them know! |
